-Of course there is the policeman that stopped my Dad's father in the catskills and wanted $$ and then later G'pa called the police to report him.
-My Dad invited Wald (something) little girl to the basement and told her to put her finger in the socket and she couldn't take it out due to current and my father grabbed her, although he felt the strong current, was able to push her out of there. Soon her parents came by to complain to my Dad's parents.
-My Dad said that he went to the principle's office because he would be throwing up right after his Mom would leave him at school. Micky would have to clean it up. The P. was hitting his own hand with a thick ruler in a threatening way. My Dad said" If I give you a nickel, will you not hit me?" He didn't.
-For 2-cents, my Dad's Dad would buy empty soda bottles from another guy who had stole them. G'Pa would then drive Dad and Mickey to the store. My Dad was too nervous to go in, so Mickey went in with the bottles and got sugar in exchange. Dad's Mom baked alot and used a lot of sugar.
-Dad during his delivery of milk would take the empties of other milkmen and would get the 2-cent for his family.
-His family bought a 35-studebacker(?) or packard with the canvas rolltop roof. They were doing all right. Of the 3 families in the house, only they got the newspaper delivered and had a phone.
-"Rich Sam" had an oil and coal delivery business which he sold and moved to NYC to run a pushcart. He returned broke. He was a "shuckar". They got welfare food baskets and Tante Annie when to work in the coat factory that Uncle Izzy and Abe, his brother-in-law started. The Abe tricked Izzy to sign a paper that said he gives up his share. He continued working there.
-Lennie Zetomer's 2 sisters (Evelyn? and Lillian) when they were kids went to the local bar and tap danced and sang for money.
-Dad's Dad hired Lennie's dad to paint, but they hid the shnapps whenever he did.
-Cranking the '29 international was very scarry because it could break your wrist if it kicked back.
-They got a smaller truck, studebaker that was easier to handle, particluarly the shifter. Infrequently, the shifter would bang into the glass protecting the speedometer. Dad would go to the dealer and buy a new glass and replace the broken one.
-Dad replaced the "Bendix bolt" on the starter after he watched someone else do it.
-A rooster used to chase Dad around their house's back lot which had a dirt surface.
-After a day's work, Dad's tired Dad would drive the family to the Bronx to visit tante Fanny and Uncle Jack and Bob and Mookie Rumsky. They would play cards, the cigar smoke filled the room very thickly. So the kids played outside. THey'd play poker or penocle
