Seeing Lu's red shirt and skin so deep in the water below me was at once most horrifying and causing me to understand what to do immediately---dive in and pull her up. That long period of contemplation seemed forever. Very fortunately, she emerged, vital and very alive. "We lost the motor". (Relived that my most precious loss wasn't, I moved onto the next loss.) Once back on land, the horror of that sight had haunted me and moved me to maintain closeness with her. At once I feel horrible that I didn't act so quickly and most appreciative of her presence. I'm so glad it wasn't her time. Lu said: for any other, I would be planning the funeral. I shall be more cautious, more prepared for the worst.
